Children’s Camp-In
A children’s camp-in will be held on August 17 at 6 p.m. – August 18, at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 6-12 can attend without parents with FBC permission forms filled out. Hector and Christine Quintana will be chaperones. Of course, the whole family is welcome to attend! Children under the age of 6 must attend with their parent or guardian. We will provide a dinner of hotdogs and camp-style food as well as a breakfast in the morning. Bring a sleeping bag as we will be sleeping in tents in the Fellowship Hall. Come for a fun fellowship time of crafts, games, and a children’s devotion. Please RSVP to Christine Quintana at 563.583.4623 or hcquintana@msn.com.

Children’s Tea party
A Children’s Tea Party will be held on August 19 following the Sunday Worship Service. Emily Ott and Claudette Bees will be hosting. All families with children are invited to attend. Come as fancy as you please! Please RSVP to Christine Quintana at 563.583.4623 or hcquintana@msn.com.

Invitation to Emily Ott’s Senior Recital
The church is invited to attend Emily’s Senior Recital on September 9 at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Jansen Music Hall at Clarke University, 1550 Clarke Drive here in Dubuque.

FBC T-Shirts
We have a new batch of FBC t-shirts available for sale. They will set you back $10. See Linda Chapman if you are interested in up-grading your wardrobe.

Faces & Voices Reading Group
Would you consider reading a book and joining the faces & voices reading group on September 30 at the public library? The book assignment is “America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege and the Bridge to a New America” by Jim Wallis. I am inviting the good people of First Baptist to participate. Why? Because one of our core values is this: “Embracing Diversity.” Please consider picking up the challenge.

Interested in Baptism?
Our church stands in the long tradition of believing that baptism is an important step in the journey of faith. Jesus instituted this step when he was baptized by John the Baptist [Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22; John 1:31-34].

The Church has historically believed in different modes of baptism: sprinkling, pouring, immersion, etc. But it has always believed it to be an important step in the life of a Christian. Our church believes that baptism is a public event and faithfully fully immerses baptizands.

Baptism is a response to what Jesus is doing in an individual’s life. It is a declaration of intent to follow Jesus for the rest of one’s life. It declares an investment in the Church where one is baptized. It is a public event of a private reality.

Baptisms will occur on the last Sunday of any given month. If you believe Jesus is moving you toward this event please talk to pastor Tim. He will ask you questions about your faith and what you sense God is doing in drawing you toward this significant event. Baptism will then occur during a Sunday worship service.

Discipleship begins in September
We will begin our full discipleship program on September 9. This year marks an exciting experiment that will focus on the same scripture across all platforms. In other words, from the nursery to the adults, everyone will study the same thing. In fact, the sermons on Sunday will also cover the same text and idea. Be prepared by participating in the various discipleship opportunities on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. beginning September 9.
