Texts for Next Week’s Sermon [6.11.17]
The following bible texts will serve as the basis for next week’s sermon. Why not include them in your meditation this week? Genesis 1:1-2:4a; Psalm 8; 2 Corinthians 13:11-13; Matthew 28:16-20. This year, 2017, as a result of the sermon series on the acronym “BELLS,” the pastor decided to use the lectionary to focus on the gospels and “Learn Jesus.” This information about the next week’s lesson is designed to assist you in being prepared for the week’s message.

The Global Leadership Summit
This wonderful event will again be broadcast to the Heritage Center at the University of Dubuque. Faculty includes: Sheryl Sandberg, CEO, Facebook; Gary Haugen, Founder & CEO, International Justice Mission; plus ten others. August 10-11. Here is the really cool news. Because we are participating with UD, our church qualifies for a special rate. It will cost $99 if you register before 6/27/17 using priority code SPC17. After that it will cost $129 using priority code SPC17. If you are a student, faculty, or military, your rate would be $89 without any priority code. You will have to self-identify as you register. One Great Hour of Sharing
What is “One Great Hour of Sharing [OGHS]?” It is a Christian effort to empower, provide water, supply food, and give relief from disasters to people around the world. Cooperating agencies are: American Baptist Churches USA, AME Zion Churches, Christian Church [Disciples of Christ], Church of the Brethren, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Church [USA], United Church of Christ, and Church World Services. We will collect this offering through the month of June. You can pick up coin boxes in the foyer, and/or use the OGHS envelopes in the pew rack. Your gift does make a difference.

Juneteenth Celebration
The Dubuque Multicultural Family Center is sponsoring the 8th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. This year there will be a talent contest with cash prizes. Plan now to attend on June 17th at Comiskey Park [24th & Jackson]. To enter the contest please read the flyer on the bulletin board in the foyer.

Ministry Lists
Hey team, there are a number of sign up lists in the foyer. There is one for snacks, one for ushering, one for scripture reading and one for cleaning the church. We need help. Do you have the time and the inclination to help out? Talk to the pastor if you have any questions.

Annual Church Garage Sale
This year’s sale will be held on Saturday, June 23 and 24. We will begin setting up after worship on Sunday June 18. You can bring your valuable, slightly-used items to church beginning right now. We will store them in the garage of Judson House. All proceeds, less expenses goes toward the support of the Suns.

FBC Movie Night
Movie night is June 9 at 6:30 p.m. The June presentation is “The Help.” Water and popcorn are free!
Great movie! Challenging scenes! Worth your time! Not appropriate for younger audiences.

MLK 2017 Reading Challenge
I am inviting interested members and friends of FBC to join in on the MLK reading challenge. This month’s [May/June] book is: “At Canaan’s Edge: America in the King Years 1965-68” by Taylor Branch. Book discussion will take place at River Lights Bookstore [1098 Main Street] June 25 at 3:00 p.m.

FBC-ProtoStar Summer Family Campfire Series
Bring the kids and let’s hang out at the park, play some games, eat some food, and sing some songs around the campfire. Details will be coming soon but please note these dates for this exciting new series of FBC events!

Men’s Breakfast
There is a new format. Men [all ages] are invited to attend breakfast to be held on the third Saturday from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. On every third month there will also be an opportunity to engage in some church work projects. The next breakfast is June 17. The next Breakfast/work day is July 15.

2017 ProtoStar Youth Summer Campfire Series
This series will explore the idea of “Young Leaders” based on Paul’s writing to Timothy, “Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young,” … “set an example for the believers.”
Meetings will be held on Wednesday, June 14, July 12, and August 9 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
